Hello,

I'm building an heresy-era Majestic Fists ground forces, and while I went "homebrew" for my 40k chapter, I wanna stick to fluff for the Fists and trying to go both pure WYSIWIG and taking inspiration from the HH books for the paint scheme.

I've found a not bad tutorial to brand an easy yellow from Mengel Miniature's website (highly recommend information technology) just now I'k facing a tougher hurdle: painting a metallic black for my veteran tacticals and terminators (run across attached pics).

I'm looking for a tutorial (or at least some steps/tips) to achieve a decent metallic black. The assault terminator has a bit of a bronze undertone to the black whereas the veteran tactical is more of a standard brushed-metal look. I have no thought how to get close to that. I typically would employ standard brushes for smaller models of that kind merely I practise ain an airbrush that I normally use for speed-painting or larger models (vehicles and such).

I appreciate the assist.

Brilliant.

I agree that glazing with blackness wash or ink is a corking way to knock back brighter basecoats and become a subtle, tinted black. My efforts take been a chip more rough 'due north' gear up, though!

Well... the event is pretty sugariness, but I was hoping for a less time-consuming technique. I guess information technology may non happen for black.

Expert link in any case and it'southward giving me idea.

Continue em coming!

Reaper has a paint chosen Adamantium Black which you may desire to look into. I believe I accept a bottle of information technology somewhere, but I don't retrieve always using information technology.

i was thinking of this too. while that link does match the picture, it sort of appears a bit of NMM to me. its also bad the Tamiya clear doesnt brand a clear black. because it would be easy to airbrush it over a silver. this would be for a very glossy black metallic.

To darken the steel/silver paint, yous could always opt for some heavy layering of Gloss Nuln Oil to go it dark enough..

Well, as mentioned, the manner I did information technology was a bit less involved. Basecoat of metal, maybe a bit of lighter metallic drybrushed or layered, then a few coats of some kind of transparent brown or black, heavier in the recesses.

Some of these aren't dark plenty to exist 'black' metal, but I promise they get the point across.

Vallejo has an Air Metallic called Black.

I use it guns and what you for my Bolt Action, likewise as the shoulder trim on my HH Blood Angels.

Information technology's by far one of my favorite Vallejo paints. It'south a metal black! No shading or highlighting needed. Except where information technology is actually needed.

I merely bought "smoke" from Tamiya paint, which seems, in the canteen, to wait like clearcoat black. I haven't tested it, but mayhap someone tin weigh in who has? Maybe say if it works over silvery to give that metal blackness look?

This is what I came hear to say. Great paint; it'southward not necessarily as nighttime as you recollect it would be, but y'all can easily wash over it with Black to darken it down, or blues/browns to add some more tone to it.

Great paint.

Most of Forge Earth'south Fe Hands were painted (earlier FW did their ain paints) with it - albeit shaded with a bunch of xanthous/green/purple washes:
